This was the drop off point for our painting group. Siena is famous for its narrow streets flanked by medieval brick buildings. As you can imagine, this was as close to the Piazza del Campo our tour van could take us, and it was our responsibility to hike down to the city center with our backpacks full of art supplies. The sight from this vantage point was breathtaking, looking out and beyond the distant hills, but there was more below. We were to spend the day plein air painting and soaking up the history and heritage of Siena, one of the most famous Italian cities. If you look carefully on the narrow street, immersed in cast shadows from the stately old buildings, you will see Giuseppe, our tour guide, and Eloise, our dearest and most senior member of the painting group. At 93, she was an inspiration to all, painting at every location and hiking the many steps with ease.
